May 20 is World Bee Day, which has been celebrated annually since 2018. Thanks to the efforts of the Slovenian government and the support of the International Federation of Beekeeping Associations "Apimondia", the UN General Assembly proclaimed May 20 as World Bee Day. The date of May 20 was chosen based on the birthday of the founder of the theory of modern beekeeping, Anton Jansch. Today there is a huge problem that threatens to develop into a global catastrophe and which can first destroy many species of plant life, and then lead to the problem of food shortages throughout the globe: the number of bees and other pollinating insects is declining. And this could become a major challenge for future generations. That is why, realizing the seriousness of the moment, the theme for World Bee Day 2024 was “Attention to the bees - it’s up to the youth.” This topic highlights the importance of attracting young people to the beekeeping industry and the need for greater awareness of the problems of bee deaths and the decline of other pollinators. And this is a very serious task for our contemporaries - to take care of future generations and prepare future specialists who will be able to take care of environmental balance, preserve biological diversity and keep the agricultural industry at a high level.
